Emergency Preparedness
The Emergency Preparedness Committee is a chartered, standing committee of the Fishhawk Lake Reserve and Community Inc.
Our Purpose
The Emergency Preparedness Committee shall help the community prepare for and respond effectively to emergency situations that may arise in our community through the following duties:
- Develop, recommend, implement and conduct periodic tests, reviews and assessments of an emergency preparedness plan.
- Organize, train and manage an Incident Management Team and First Responder network throughout the community to respond to emergency incidents in the community.
- Work closely with the Community Manager to provide emergency communications to residents and information to the Incident Management Team and First Responders.
- Conduct formal and informal educational programs in the community that encourage residents to acquire continuing education in first aid, CPR, pet safety, and other emergency preparedness topics.
- Participate in emergency preparedness plans of Clatsop and Columbia Counties and the State of Oregon and other local communities.
On this page you will find information about our committee, practice drills that are held four times a year, online resources with emergency information, checklists, and emergency contact information for local first responders.
We welcome your participation whether that is welcoming our Block Captains during a drill, actively participating on the committee or attending one of our educational workshops.
Emergency Evacuation Route
Fishhawk Road south to Highway 202 is the primary route to exit the community. If this road becomes impassable, an alternative is to go north to Highway 30 via back roads through the woods. This alternative route follows logging or forest service roads that are unpaved and not maintained for regular use, and it is very easy to get lost as the roads are not well marked. It is not recommended to follow this route except in an emergency, and all-wheel or four-wheel drive vehicles are advised.
An evacuation drill is generally held once a year, and members are encouraged to use this opportunity to learn from individuals who have experience navigating this route.
