Guy Wonder (and
Lady)
Guy worked in the bakery business for Hostess in Seattle for three years, then worked for The Wonder Bakery for fourteen. In his last two years, he attended Seattle Community College and took baking courses. His kids shared a funny story. While applying for the job at Wonder Bakery he went in to fill out the application and the secretary thought he was dumb along with being deaf as he was writing his last name as Wonder…which got the manager involved and after some heated discussion, Guy eventually showed them his driver’s license and lo and behold he indeed DID have the last name of—Wonder! After several years, he went on to get his AA degree in Baking and got the job to teach baking at Washington State School for the Deaf. He made the best maple bars, which were eaten as soon as they popped out of the oven.
Leaving Fishhawk Lake was hard on Grandpa Wonder. He is living with his son, Jim and daughter-in-law, Kathy, who, along with the other family members are doing their best to keep his spirits up and keep him as comfortable as possible. He’s lost weight and has a difficult time coping, but he hasn’t lost that spark in his eye. Soon, he will be moving to a sunnier climate and join his other son, Guy in Palm Springs. It should be good for his arthritis, and might make it easier for him to walk. He will have more contact with the deaf community there as well.
Even though his home here of many years is now on the market, there will always be a part of Grandpa Wonder that will never leave the lake.
If you would like to keep in touch with Guy, please drop him a note either to Vancouver, WA. (until October) or Palm Springs after that (see addresses below). He will make occasional trips to the lake this summer with family, so look for him!
